Rumormill: Ford reportedly hard at work on 2013 Mustang Boss 302 updates

Filed under:

2012 ford mustang boss 302

According to the singularly obsessed minds at Mustangs Daily, Ford is already hard at work updating the Boss 302 for 2013. Owners of the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302, while seemingly quite pleased with their new coupes, have apparently made a few suggestions to Ford that would make them even happier. The Blue Oval has reportedly listened to most of the suggestions and is planning a few updates for the 2013 model.

For starters, Sync is coming to the previously infotainment tech-less cabin of the Boss 302, along with a modest 4.2-inch LCD screen and the MyKey system. The exterior will get a few changes in the form of a broader color range and new forward illumination. High-intensity discharge headlamps are on the way, though it's not clear if they will be made a standard feature or an optional extra. The choice of exterior paintwork will now include Gotta-Have-It Green, School Bus Yellow, Grabber Blue, White and Red.

If you don't need Sync, the 2013 will make your 2012 a little cheaper. If you do want Sync, then 2013 will be your year. As Michael Scott might say, this represents a win-win-win. (Ford getting the third nod.)

Report: Chevy Volt retail stock hits 1,361 units

Chevy Volt production start date map
General Motors execs say production of the Chevrolet Volt will not hit a level capable of satisfying demand until the second-quarter of 2012. Despite dismal August sales of only 302 units, GM insists it's not a lack of demand that's holding the Volt back.

While The General continues to blame the Volt's lack of sales on limited availability - thanks in part to a recent four-week shutdown at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly - data compiled by Ward's Auto shows the supply of Volts now stands at 1,361 units, up from the 226 reported at the end of July. GM says that some 700 to 800 of the 1,361 plug-in hybrids are dealer demonstration units that, at least for now, can't be sold. If Ward's numbers are correct, that leaves almost a two-month supply of Volts sitting on dealer lots.

Later this year, the Volt's availability expands nationwide. Don Johnson, GM's U.S. sales chief, told Ward's Auto that since dealers must stock a demo Volt before receiving salable units, retail sales of the plug-in sedan won't increase significantly anytime soon. During a conference call on Friday, Johnson added, "It's going to take us a month or two to really fill up the retail inventory for those dealers." It looks like our prediction that the Nissan Leaf will continue its electrifying reign over the Volt for the next couple of months will hold true.

Rossi frustrated by testing limits

Valentino Rossi says MotoGP's current testing restrictions have badly hampered Ducati's ability to get back on the pace this year, and described the limited non-grand prix running as 'incredible'. Rossi has only managed one podium finish since joining the Italian team, and his form barely changed even after Ducati brought in a version of its 2012 1000cc bike with a 2011-rules 800cc engine. At present there are only two post-grand prix tests during the racing season, though some teams are pushing for these limits - introduced at the height of the cost-cutting push of 2009 - to be relaxed for 2012
