Can Twitter?s Self-Serve Ad Product Meet Rosy Expectations To Drive Revenues To $400M By 2013?

twitterAs Twitter CEO Dick Costolo told the media a few weeks ago, advertising is a key strategy for the company. ?Our advertising method is the only one we need to be a big business,? he said at the time. And Twitter has rolled out a number of new products including Promoted Tweets. But according to a new eMarketer report, Twitter's ad revenue is expected to be lower this year, and will grow significantly over the next few years once the platform's self-serve ad product rolls out. eMarketer estimates global ad revenues at Twitter will grow 210% to $139.5 million in 2011, up from just $45 million in 2010, in the company?s first full year of selling advertising. For background, eMarketer forms its estimates for advertising spending on Twitter through an analysis of estimates of consumer usage, marketer usage, ad pricing, and impressions on Twitter, as well as revenue estimates from research firms and other sources.

Spyker Owner Planning Revival of Jensen Interceptor in 2014

The original 1966?1976 Jensen Interceptor was a British-built, Detroit-powered four-seat grand tourer. After a few on-again, off-again production blips in the 1980s, the Interceptor was dead for good?or so we thought. The owner of the Jensen brand rights has decided to make a run at resurrecting the half-century-old GT for 2014. Healey Sports Cars Switzerland [...]

Tarzan Ball is a tricky hook-and-pull physics game

tarzanball
So, you're a ball. A Tarzan Ball, to be precise. You've earned the nickname thanks to your astonishing ability to shoot out a lengthy 'vine' (I hope it's a vine) at objects, and then pull yourself towards those objects.

That's a handy ability to have, especially since you've got no legs, no arms, and no other means of transportation. In Tarzan Ball, the rope is everything. But you don't just swing around the screen aimlessly - that wouldn't be much of a game now, would it?

Instead, your goal in life is to collect "targets". Each level has one of these "targets" hidden away somewhere on the screen, usually behind some kind of barrier. Once you navigate close enough to the target, you can shoot your rope at it and just reel it in. That's when you pass the level.

You can't die in this game, but it can still be very frustrating. It's actually one of the tougher games I've posted recently. Still, if you enjoy physics games, this one is quite nicely made.

[This is actually the sequel to IQ Ball, which we covered last year! -Ed]

Android App Review: Sandisk Memory Zone

Android Central

Better known for its microSD cards, Sandisk has released its own memory management application onto the Android Market. Whereas popular file management apps like Astro allow you to dive deep into the file system on your device, Sandisk aims to cast a wider net by linking into cloud storage services as well.

The underlying intent is to assist you with backing up your device's contacts, photos, music, videos, documents and even apps to either your memory card, or to your Dropbox and Box.net accounts. It also works the other way allowing you to restore from these locations. You can set up your backups to occur automatically at different time intervals using the "Backup/Restore" function. This only allows you to utilise automatic backups over wifi by default, so you don't need to worry about gigabytes worth of data uploading in your pocket while you're sat on the bus. There is still an option to allow upload over cellular data though should you want it.

The app also allows you to access your Picasa and Google Docs accounts. Through both of these services you can both upload to and download your content from the cloud to your device as well as deleting files from your cloud storage.

The app has a really nice looking UI, and splits all your files into type; music, images, videos, documents, and applications. If theres something specific you have in mind that you're trying to find, a little of the work is taken care of.

It comes at the moment with the beta tag, but feels really polished and could well replace a number of memory management applications by combining so many services into one.

Sandisk Memory Zone is available free in the Android Market. Download links and screenshots available after the break.

Ask DLS: Cross-platform multiplayer games that work on Android and iOS

askdls
Here's one for our knowledgeable commenters: I recently bought my girlfriend an iPad. I, on the other hand, own an Android device. And now we're looking for games we can play using both devices.

There's no dearth of multiplayer games either for Android or for iOS. But finding multiplayer games that can cross the platform boundary is an entirely different matter.

Jay recently posted Words with Friends which is one such game. It's actually an ideal example, because it's turn-based so you don't necessarily both have to be next to your device at the same time (great for long-distance gaming).

But what other examples are there? What multiplayer games are there that let iOS users play with Android users?

BlackBerry Messenger 6.0 screenshots leak

bbm 6
A leaked early version of RIM's upcoming BlackBerry Messenger 6 has been making the rounds since late February, but images of the new app are just now beginning to appear. Over at CrackBerry, the crew has shared a handful of images of BBM 6 in action. Unfortunately, you won't get a glimpse at a chat or file transfer -- only the profile screens (after the break) and what you see above. All that's really revealed so far is the option to set custom contact and chat colors and BlackBerry OS 6.1-style icons.

CrackBerry also warns against installing the leaked BBM 6 app. There's no guarantee this app hasn't been tampered with, and BlackBerry devices are becoming a more common target for cybercriminals.
